Debra brings to CommCore more than 25 years communications experience, both as an award-winning journalist in the business and finance sector and as a communications professional. For CommCore, she is the primary media relations manager for the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) in their ongoing campaign for public sector pensions in the face of attacks at the state level nationwide.

Previously she spent six years as Director of Communications for financial consultancy Promontory Financial Group, which was founded and headed by former Clinton Administration Comptroller of the Currency Gene Ludwig. At Promontory, Debra was responsible for marketing communications, media relations and public affairs.  Previously Debra was Senior Vice President for Publishing at banking sector non-profit America’s Community Bankers, where she produced numerous publications on corporate governance and investor relations.

As a journalist, Debra was Banking Sector team leader at Bloomberg News, Staff Editor for Bloomberg’s Bureau of National Affairs and Executive Editor at banking sector trade daily American Banker where she managed a team of 70 reporters and editors. During a decade at American Banker, she launched and directed the newspaper’s coverage of mutual funds and other investments, and oversaw coverage of equity and bond markets, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and mortgages, among other topics.

Debra previously worked as Washington Bureau Chief for National Mortgage News, Legislative Writer for the National Association of Home Builders and Staff Writer for the American Bankers Association. Her news teams earned more than a dozen awards from American Society of Business Publication Editors, Society of National Association Publications, and Trade Association and Business Publications International.

Debra’s expertise includes writing and editing, media relations, crisis communications, publishing, public affairs and policy, web content development and graphic design oversight.

She is a graduate of Butler University.
