Meet Our Spring Intern Imani!

Welcome Imani Yorker to the CommCore team. Imani is currently an undergrad at the University of Maryland College Park. She’s a double major in Communications, Public Relations and Sociology.  Learn more about her below.

Three words I would use to describe myself…

Strong-minded, positive, hardworking.

I put these words in a specific order because to grasp hold of an opportunity, one must be strong-minded and willing to chase after their dreams. Today, many lose sight of their true purpose, meaning or dreams due to being influenced by others, but as a strong-minded individual I sometimes walk alone simply to keep the goal in sight.

Positive describes me because at any point in life I try to maintain a glass half full perspective and mindset.

Hardworking describes me as an individual because whenever I am given an assignment, or have my mind set on reaching a goal I work hard to get there and reach it. I understand that not much in life is given and to reach your full potential hard work and dedication is often required to get there.

What are you most passionate about…

My biggest passion would be to live life to its fullest potential, and that means in all areas. Whatever I am giving my time to, I would like to give my all and get the most out of any experience I possibly can, whether that is regarding my education, extracurricular activities, traveling, personal branding, work experience, you name it. There is so much out there in the world and limiting myself would be so unfortunate, so taking advantage of every opportunity whatever it may be is important. I like to keep myself busy and tend to sometimes seem to be too busy in others opinion, people tell me I do not let grass grow under my feet. I take that as a compliment.

Why intern for CommCore?

As a junior in college, I have reached the point in my career where real world experience is valued probably now more than ever. I am at the point where I feel as though gaining experience is essential and crucial to my success. I seek opportunities in a variety of fields, but one field I had not yet ventured into was cybersecurity and crisis communication. Crisis communication skills are important to have in the PR World today because in any field, a crisis can occur, so having the hands-on skills and training to deal with any crises is essential. Also, let’s not fail to mention the firm’s recognition as a top PR firm by both the Washington Business Journal and being listed in Observer PR’s “Power 50.”

What is your favorite social media channel?

If we’re being completely honest, the answer to this question about a week ago would have been Snapchat. But thanks to this update, Instagram is taking the cake for my favorite social media channel. I love the option of sharing my memories, trips, and experiences with others via photos and videos, but also the flexibility the app gives me. I have been taking advantage of the recently added Instagram Stories feature to share short term or daily updates, which is a treat and I also enjoy the live feature and having people tune in to see what I am up to. I also enjoy Instagram for the access to so many influencers and companies for fresh ideas. As a millennial I am always looking for new ways to keep my personal brand on par along with keeping my page aesthetically pleasing, so in my free time you can find me on the explore page seeing what’s new.

What do you hope to get involved with the most at CommCore?

I hope to get involved with a host of crisis communication projects. I am eager to be involved in any stage of the projects whether that may be sitting in on meetings, writing press releases, conducting research for clients, etc. As stated earlier skills for dealing with a crisis are essential so just adding those skills to my tool belt and focusing in and working on my writing skills.
