CommCore Presents to Food Marketing Institute Asset Protection Conference:

How to Contain Crises in Today’s Viral World

(Washington, DC, March 19, 2015) –The impact of social media on business operations, and the importance of collaboration between Risk Management (RM) and Loss Prevention (LP) teams and a company’s Communications function are critical to effective crisis management in the retail food industry. Those were two of the key takeaways from an interactive lecture on crisis communications by specialty communications firm CommCore to members of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) at their annual conference in Memphis, TN.

Attendees learned best practices of crisis communications from food industry-related case histories. They then had to react to a fictitious but realistic simulation about an escalating social protest campaign calling for a national veal boycott because of the treatment of calves.

“How the public, the media, social activists, and stakeholders such as employees, suppliers, shippers, board members and stock holders perceive an evolving situation can have a material impact on your day-to-day operations,” CommCore Senior Vice President Nicholas F. Peters explained to the RM and LP managers. “What is communicated — and when and how — can be the difference between a manageable emergency and a crisis that goes viral and disrupts business continuity.”
