Michael Sigman

As a Senior Consultant for CommCore, Michael Sigman brings an uncommon perspective to Advanced Business Communication. He blends presentation and media experience with expertise in psychology, cognitive behavioral science, and executive coaching. Through Michael, CommCore has expanded its communications training to include Group Problem Solving and Critical Thinking. The program emphasizes that rapport-building and rapport-sustaining skills are essential to growing individuals and companies.  Specifically, Michael conveys the importance of methodical communications and questioning skills that uncover important information, active listening methods that capture meaning and nuance, and techniques necessary to prepare for a successful outcome in difficult conversations.

In 2009, for example, Michael conducted a series of multi-day workshops for a total of about 180 managers at the Social Security Administration (SSA) in the Kansas City regional office and at SSA headquarters in Baltimore. The challenge facing the SSA was to improve their managers’  ability to make important decisions, as individuals and small groups, in a sometimes pressure-filled and often limited period of time.  In addition to learning new tools, SSA wanted managers to be become more efficient, manage time more effectively and develop team-building skills in a  government bureaucracy environment. 

Drawing on Michael’s skill set, CommCore developed a custom program for the SSA combining the best practices of behavior modification and communication skills training. Participants remained engaged and active, using new and intuitive tools for solving problems and thinking critically.  They learned about emotional intelligence, valued the input of colleagues, practiced with actual and realistic SSA scenarios and had a lot of fun during the teambuilding activities.  They produced glowing evaluations about the value and relevance of the program and how they were going to apply what they had learned immediately.  The SSA is scheduling additional workshops in different cities in 2010.

CommCore’s Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Program for Managers is adaptable to any corporate, government and organizational environment.  Portions of this program are customized for executive level leaders so they are able to leverage the new skills acquired by their teams.
